New TK cut-off date for the 2025-2026 school year. Based on the language in AB130 section 48000- (D) In the 2025–26 school year, a child who will have their fourth birthday by September 1, 2025, shall be admitted to a transitional kindergarten program maintained by the school district or charter school.
Transitional kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. A child who completes one year in a TK program may continue in a kindergarten program for one additional year. A child who completes a year of TK and a year of kindergarten will be promoted to first grade. A child who completes two years of kindergarten will be promoted to first grade. A kindergarten continuance cannot be filed once a two-year kindergarten program has been completed, the student will be promoted to first grade. Grade-level retention will be considered in accordance with the school's Promotion, Acceleration, and Retention Policy.
Students entering Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2025.
TK and Kindergarten are not mandatory for children. However, California law requires a child to be six years old on or before September 1 to be legally eligible for first grade.
Being vaccinated or fully vaccinated is not a requirement to enroll in a full-time independent study school. However, because we are a public school, we are still required to collect vaccination records during the enrollment process.
Teachers are assigned based on the location of the student enrolling. We try to place families with the closest available teacher. Families are free to request a specific teacher as well. Families can also request a teacher with specifications (bilingual, has worked with students with disabilities, has knowledge of a learning/ teaching style). Although we try our best to accommodate a family’s request, it is not always possible.
Yes, you can still sign up by submitting an Enrollment Interest Form to be placed on the waitlist. After all students who applied during the open enrollment period have been placed, we will offer available spots to waitlisted families on a first-come, first-served basis.
The planning amounts families receive are public funds. These planning amounts can be used to cover the costs of curriculum, approved vendor classes and school-related items. Technology costs for the student(s) can be covered as well.
If you are a prospective parent and have questions about Special Education, please complete the survey and the Special Education Team will reach out to you shortly.
Your HST will help you with this. You can also reach out to our Family Liaisons Yvonne Kahlen, Family Liaison at (619) 782-6464 x2249 or Maria Ramirez, (Special Programs) Family Liaison at (619) 782-6464 x2314 or email at liaisons@cabrillopointacademy.org.
Grade level is determined 2 ways. The state enrollment record is verified and the student enrolled in the next level or we will refer to our Grade Level Placement Chart according to birthdate. We can not advance or retain a student upon enrollment.
Students can only be retained if their prior school has recommended it. If you feel that your student will not be able to handle the upcoming school year, you can always bring up your concerns to your HST.
Please read about our Technology options on our website.
Students are not allowed to be dual enrolled into two schools; whether it is another public school or a private school. High school students, however, may sign up to take classes at their local community college. Families may discuss this path with their HST or the counselor.
Your HST will use the Transcript provided during registration to work with you to determine a high school graduation plan for your student.
